  Summary:
Triage is a medical procedure used in order to categorise patients into certain triage categories according to their symptoms and/or medical findings e.g. LEVEL OF EMERGENCY in order to make us more efficient in giving emergency medical aid. Dispatcher work represents one of the most important links of emergency medical aid chain. The purpose of this work is to point out the difficulties of dispatcher work showing the statistics of SHMP Zaječar during the period February - July of 2004. Out of total number of 229 emergency aid crew interventions during this period, 55 were unjustified by medical reasons due to uncooperation of the caller, caller’s panic, caller’s threats to our staff etc. We think that measures like: additional education of SHMP staff for dispatcher work, citizen’s education, more rigid and intensive triage, more severe legal punishment of misuse of 94 telephone line, would add to easier and more efficient work of SHMP Zaječar in situations when we are most needed.

Key words: dispatch work, triage, triage difficulties.
