      Summary:
INTRODUCTION: In children and adolescents obesity is defined as an increase in body weight above the arbitrarily fixed value, which takes into account gender, chronological age and body height of subjects, which is caused by excessive fat in the body. The prevalence of obesity in paediatric population has increased and is clearly associated with specific illnesses. A physical examination before starting school is an opportunity to assess the health status of children. OBJECTIVE: Assessment of nutritional status of children before starting school in two generations of children born in 1994 and 2004 in Zaječar. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The data were obtained from medical records of 951 children (M:F-486/465) in a systematic review before starting school, which has been done in 2001 and in 2011 at the Children's Department of the Health Care Center H.C.C. Zaječar in Zaječar. The first (A) group is a generation of children born in 1994, and the second (B) a group of children born in 2004. As regards gender in group A there were M / F - 236/230, and group B M/Ž- 250/235. 75% of children were from urban areas, 25%lived in the country. Measurement of anthropometric parameters of body-height (TV) and body mass (TM) of participants was completed by use of a standard operating procedure. Body mass index - BMI (Body Mass Index) - was calculated according to standard formula-TM BMI = (kg) / [TV (m)] 2). All subjects were divided according to the BMI into four groups: I-malnourished, II- normal weight, III- before obese and IV-obese. The data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The average weight of boys born in 1994 amount to 23.99 ± 4.58 kg, a boy born in 2004 was 24.06 ± 4.75 kg. Mean weight of girls born in 1994 amount to 23.04 ± 4.62 kg, a girl born in 2004 was 23.50 ± 5.14 kg. There aren’t statistically significant differences in mean TM in both sexes in those two generations of children. (T-test SN).The average body height (TV) of boys born in 1994 amount to 122 ± 0.06 cm, a boy born in 2004 was 121 ± 0.06 cm. TV average girl born in 1994 amount to 121 ± 0.06 cm, a girl born in 2004 was 119 ± 0.06 cm. There was a statistically significant difference at p-0, 001 in both sexes for the TV, or generation of children born in 2004 has more TV. The average values of BMI in boys born 1994 amount to 16.03 ± 2.31 kg/m2, a boy born in 2004. was 16.45 ± 2.41 kg/m2, a girl born in 1994. amount to 15.65 ± 2.22 kg/m2, and a girl born 2004. was 16.43 ± 2, 73 kg/m2. There was a statistically significant difference at p-0, 001 in both sexes for BMI, or generation of children born in 2004th year has a higher average BMI. The frequency of the level of nutrition among boys born in 1994: I / II / III / IV group 32/164/30/9 (15.61% / 80% / 4.4% / 4.4%), boys born in 2004.: I / II / III / 29/159/37/18 group IV (14% / 77% / 8.7% / 8.7%). There was no statistical significance in the incidence of overweight and obesity among boys in those two generations (X2 test-2, 49). The frequency of the level of nourishment of girls born in 1994: I / II / III / IV group 41/157/30/7 (20% / 77% / 3.4% / 3.4%) of girls born in 2004: I / II / III / IV group 25/145/39/20 (13% / 76% / 10% / 10%). There was a statistically significant degree of nutritional status of girls, namely in the generation of girls born in 2004 was more often with excessive obesity and average obesity (X 2 test-9, 32 for the significance level 0.01). CONCLUSION: The generations of children of both sexes born in 2004. They are on average taller and have higher BMI in relation to the generation of children born in 1994. Only the girls of the 2004 generation are more often pre-obese and obese as compared to the next girl born 1994.
