| Summary: The increasing number of oncology patients and the second place in the list of causes of death entails the introduction of the concept of palliative care. The goal of palliative care is to improve as much as possible the quality of life of people suffering from chronic, progressive diseases. The aim of work is to present the number of oncology patients referring to the Emergency Service (ES) for help as well as to present the most frequent causes that bring them to the ES. Material and method: Retrospective data analysis of the Emergency Service patients’ protocols was made covering the period 1st January – 31st December 2008. Results: During this period there were 231 field interventions at the call of oncology patients - 2.31 interventions per patient. The total number of oncology patients was 100 (47 women and 53 men), 71 patients in town and 29 in villages. Symptomatic therapy was given in the majority of cases (81% of all interventions). The number of hospitalized patients was 38. Discussion and conclusion: Field interventions for oncology patents make a small part in the total number of field interventions (5.38%). In most cases it was just help on a one time basis in episodes of breakthrough cancer pain, dyspnoea or nausea. Key words: palliative care, Emergency Service Napomena:
