Summary: The author wants to describe the development of health care in Mid-Banat since the first written evidence till modern times, as well as the development of child care service. The study shows that health care service has been there for more than two centuries, that medicine of those times was rather developed, that the first hospital was founded in 1769 and that soon after that the first pharmacy was opened to distribute medicines for the hospital and civilians. We were taught that the history of medicine started back in old Greece and that Greece was the cradle of medicine and medical thought. As our knowledge changes over times, I now know that that they were wrong, because medicine and medical thought had existed many thousand years before first Greek physicians. Ancient medical history beliefs have become available, as well as a cognition from a long ago: “…that disease is older than life, and healing is one of the oldest jobs…” Key words: Banat, health care development, hospital, pharmacy, ancient Greeks, disease, life Napomena:
