      Summary:
Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness characterised by disorder in many psychical functions and which leads to inefficient work functioning and social relations. Changes in biological, psychological and social conceptions are indicated as the causes of this illness. Progress in technology and new possibilities in visualization of the brain enable analyses of morphologic changes, as well as subtle changes of individual brain receptors in current mental disorder. An important area of the study comprehends neurodevelopmental processes and structural changes, emerging in early development phases, which will define predisposition for possible subsequent development of illness. In accordance with this, it is necessary to support the integrative model of schizophrenia ethiopathogenesis.
