Summary: Ultrasound
diagnostic procedures of vascular diseases are based on the use of
Doppler’s effect. Advances in vascular surgery in recent decades led
to further development of this noninvasive diagnostic method. In mid
– eighties of the XX century the use of colour duplex
ultrasonography was introduced. In vascular ultrasound diagnostics
two main kinds of ultrasound waves are used: Doppler continuous
waves and Doppler pulsating ultrasound waves. With the use of
Doppler continuous waves anklebrachial index, segmental blood
pressure, spectral analysis and venous flow examination can be
performed. These measurements can express eventual disease progress
as well as the results of the operative treatment. Colour duplex
ultrasonography is wideused non invasive procedure with high
sensitivity that combines pulsating Doppler information’s with the
visual tissue expression in the real time (real time Bmode). This
method enables the visualisation of the blood flow under the two
dimensional picture coded with colour. The procedure is frequently
used in carotid and vertebral arteries, main upper and lower
extremity vessels, as well as abdominal aorta and visceral branches
