      Summary:
Health care systems are under considerable stress in most economies, with growing demand for services, including those using new technologies, and limits on financial resources even in the richest economies. At the same time, innovations in health systems have contributed greatly to increased longevity and quality of life in recent decades, and there is strong potential for further gains. Improved health does not only deliver major benefits to individuals and communities, but also contributes to the economic growth. One estimate is that about half of the improvement in welfare of the world’s population during 20th century came from improved health, and there are evidences that improved population health makes a positive contribution to the growth of the world’s economy. It is sure that our health organizations need to be organisationally transformed. But, do we have leaders who are capable to manage health organisations successfully through this process. We need leaders who are able to build and implement a new vision, to recreate the existing ones and to create a new organization according to the world’s standards. Health organization leaders have to be involved in permanent education process in order to be able to follow growing changes. Getting closer to the world’s health standards includes big transformational changes leading to improved performances of health organizations which is directly caused by leadership development. In such circumstances leaders are creators of the overall process, from the idea to the realisation. One of the aims of this work is to underline the importance of the leaders in creating visions, spreading and qualifying of the human resources.
Key words: leadership, models in the health organization, health systems.
